Have a 1990 evinrude 60 with vro. Was fine last season, first time out this year the warning horn goes off as soon as it is started. Only does it at an idle. I traced the wires, did not find the brown wire grounded. I took the high temp and low oil out of system it made no difference. The brown wire goes to a three wire loom to the front of the engine, took it out of system and horn quit. What does that loom go to? The other two wires are grey and black and go to strip on right of engine. Is there a problem with the engine or is it still a wire problem.Don't want to run engine until i know.Engine is pushing out water and is smoking a little so i think water pump and oil system is ok.What do you think?

the problem is in the vro warning system there is a four wire update for that pump. or better yet and a much cheaper fix plug off the oil line unplug the harness to the punp and mix the oil/gas yourself the motor will probably run better and last longer

OMC Frank, thanks for the reply, appreciate the info. But i have a problem. My fuel tank is under the floor and i don't see how i could mix it the right way. Is part of the update to replace the vro pump?

Search this board for your engine and 70 hp. there is 3/4 service bullitens and upgraded waterpump kit for this engine, also temp sensor should have tan wire/blue stripe pig tail, the blue stripe indicates upgraded sensor.

If you are concerned about thorough mixing, you can always put your gas and oil into a 5 or 6 gallon jug first, miz it up and shake eyc, and then fill your boat from there.

You do not have to worry about getting the gas and oil mixed. Pulling the rig 1/2 mile down the road will mix it up just fine.

Most dealers sell a graduated plastic bottle that will help you with your ratios.

Appreciate the info. looks like if you have an old boat, you are better off to ignore the injector and mix it yourself! Wish my local dealer was smart enough to inform me of this.
