Warning Horn Constantly On When Key Turned

Hey everyone - as the title states, the warning alarm is on constantly when I turn my key. However the issue is intermittent, sometimes it doesn't happen but most of the times it does.

Some background - the outboard is a 89 Johnson 100GT. The issue seems to have begun when I reconnected the tan wire on the outboard to VRO Tank sender - which I suspect is the correct configuration if you are not deleting your VRO. This is why I focused on the VRO for troubleshooting. I believed the previous owner disconnected the wire because he was getting a warning. Regardless, to begin faultfinding, I opened the black connector that carries the tan wire, as well as the grey tach wire and I believe a ground to the VRO Pump....no joy, the alarm still sounded. I also played with the sender in the oil tank and there was no change. Finally, I disconnected the tan wire from the horn and it started working as per normal - 1 short beep when the key is turned. Therefore, I believe the VRO sender, VRO pump, and warning horn are serviceable.

My question; is my logic above correct? If so, what should I check next? Would one of the temperature sensors be u/s and sending a constant ground to the alarm? Obviously my engine isn't over heating because this is happening whenever I turn the key. Therefore, is there a relatively easy way to check the serviceability of the temp sensors ?

Thanks for any comments and I apologize if my terminology or logic was incorrect - this is my first boat project and I'm learning as I go.

Cheers

Many horns have a circuit that is a self test function.----Supposed to shut off after a bit.---Perhaps the horn itself is defective or you have a bad sensor somewhere.

Thanks for the feedback. The horn seems to be functioning correctly if I remove the tan wire - therefore, I am probably going to target the temperature sensors first. Do you know if they are generally prone to failure? Thanks.

You might get yourself a wiring diagram. Maxrules may have it. You need to see how the three tan alarm wires are connected.

I have attached the wiring diagram that I have been following - I was under the impression that the sensors attached to the tan wire would send a ground to the horn if activated (which I believe is represented on the wiring diagram at the temperature sensors) However, can anyone confirm this?

Chris1956 the tan wires are all spliced together similar to what is represented on the attached wiring diagram.
