warning horn

Hi

New to forum but read all the time. Have question??. Had boat out last week, 1990 , 35hp, quicksilver, and starter, bendex would just spin so removed cowl and with help of screwdriver it kicked up. Left cowling off while fishing so we could start it as needed. When Started in, warning horn came on, good pea hole output. Stopped and restarted engine, horn came on. Ran short distance in and no problem with overheat. Had ran several miles before removing cowling with no problem.

Cleaned bendex, starter worked ,turned key on and warning horn came on imediately, muffs on with water, horn activated when key turned to start and remained on after started. ran a minute then shut down. Warning horn activated before engine started.

Could I have unhooked a wire or short in horn wire??

Just checked again and horn comes on when key is turned from off to on, not start mode!!!, so must be in horn wiring. Don't want to disable warning horn though. This just started after leaving cowl off during 1/2 day fishing trip.

Any suggesstions.

Check the wiring, especialt he tan wires for the temp, and the oil system wires. Then reinstall the cowl and give it a try. Otherwise I think to start looking at the horm module.

Thanks Windykid,

This has a per mix not auto blend so don't think it would involve oil warning. Will check wiring though as it looked like some wiring was laying on top of smooth part of bendex, not gear part.

Well, was finally able to check tan wire. Did not find any breaks or short but just messing with it, made the horn not activate. It was bent at the sensor, so maybe was shorting there.Anyway!! Problem solved for now.
