My warning horn on my 91 evinrude 225 broke and I have the newer 2 wire model horn without the grounding wire. It has the purple and the tan wire only. Is there any way to adapt this to my engine? It doesn,t work right now.

Re: Warning horn

If your new horn has the 2 wires coming out of it (purple and tan) with a plastic connector on the end of them, then you have the WRONG one. That is for the 1996 and later System Check equipped motors.

Your engine needs the warning horn with the short ground wire and 2 spade terminals on it.

Re: Warning horn

For a manual "Self Test" setup, simply run a wire from the TAN wire on the horn to a push button or self centering toggle switch terminal, and a wire from the other terminal of the button/switch to ground.

Engaging the button/switch momentarily will cause to horn to sound, reassuring you that the horn is operational.
