To that I ask any mechanic that reads this to answer if the upper and lower drive were supposed to have been rebuilt or so the ad said last year in 2002 would this be considered warrenty. The upper case being full of water on a OMC 235hp stern drive After I bought the boat he said the rebuild was actually just a going through to replace what looked worn. Maybe it is just me and the SELOC book that says you never reuse a seal. and for fifty bucks for a seal kit you would be crazy to... So to sum it all up the seal was either installed wrong or an old seal was reused either way that doesn't seem right....RIGHT OR WRONG?????

Re: Warranty Advice

Let me understand this correctly. You were told that the drive was 'rebuilt'. You bought the boat on that premise, you now have water in the drive and the seller is telling you that the 'rebuild' really wasnt a rebuild. They aren't going to fix it.

Did you buy the boat from a dealer or private sale? If it's through a dealer then you should fight to have them cover it. Especially if their ad said it was a rebuilt drive. That would be false advertising.

If it was through a private seller you may have to fight it out in small claims court if you can't get him to pay.

Re: Warranty Advice

it has been my experience that warranties on marine products are about worthless. example: a common warranty on a rebuilt v8 engine for a car is a one year or 12 thousand miles. same engine for a boat is 30 days............. :p :p
