I called the dealership today, and I found out that the CONTINENTAL brand battery that I had in my boat, when it was new, only has a ONE YEAR WARRANTY !!!!!!!!!

It had been replaced in '08, and it is done now !!!!!

Just FYI !!!!!!!!

What battery do you all use ???

Re: Warranty NOTICE !!!!!!!

I use Johnson Controls batteries they come in about 50 or so brand names at varying grades and costs.
Buy a good quality battery, take care of it and it will last a long time.

Fall/winter, the battery was pulled, put in a insulated box, the fluids checked weekly with a battery maintainer.

It is the battery brand that came with the boat new.

Won't be any more of these !!!!!! ;)

Canadian tire car battery for me. 5 years and counting. Back up is our battery for the trolling motor and a portable power pack for boosting if necessary. Then there are the jumper cables if everything else fails....and finally the rope !!!!!

Not surprising- especially if it's in a new boat. They don't always put in the highest end things- like batteries. To the new purchaser, it's the last thing that gets worried about. It's simply a cost issue. The extra cost of a good battery would come out of the dealer's end.

Walmart is hard to beat.
These aren't real marine batteries, none of them are.
Real marine batts require a forklift.

Re: Warranty NOTICE !!!!!!!

Marine batteries are usually only good for about 3 years - especially in a small boat that sees a lot of pounding. It doesn't suprise me that the warranty would be so low. I think that the battery I bought last year only had a 2 year warranty on it.

I have owned 2 Continental batteries, one exploded and the 2nd one lasted shy of 2 years with minimal use and utmost care. I now use an Optima Blue Top and just as important, a Ctek 7200 charger.
