Was this a freebie?

I'll start with an acknowledgment that I'm a moron.

I'm new to boating and had seen guys back their boats in unhooked resulting in a graceful, efficient entry into the water.

I said to my wife, "I'm going to try something fancy."

You guessed it. My 16' fishing boat rolled half-way off the trailer and landed the stern on the ramp. The motor was half-way trimmed up, but it impacted too. I quickly got it back on the trailer and into the water the right way to hide my mortification. What a moron.

But here's the thing. I think I got really lucky. I think this was a freebie.

I can spot no serious damage, just some scrapes. I figured there was a good chance I'd even be leaking, but there's no sign of it.

So, my question is: did I get lucky? Am I missing something? Is there damage I can't see? Should I have expected more damage?

And...can anyone erase my wife's memory of the incident?

I was going to post pictures, but I guess I can't since I don't have 10 posts yet.

Thanks for the help,

Embarrassed but Grateful

you have a slight bit of deformation of the hull, however if it doesnt leak, your good. if you have a slight, leak, a bit of 5200 will suffice.

the skeg damage is minor

you will never be able to delete your wife's memory of it, and she will remind you of it decades from now.

Eons ago when I was just a kid with his first boat I went to the library and read a book about how to be a trailer boater.

Step #1 was put in the drain plug.
Step #Last was unhook the winch and push the boat off the trailer.

In 52 years I only missed step 1 once, and that was the first ride of the season. After that I never took the plug out again.

I think it's ok as long as you asked her to hold your beer first...
I'm guessing the boat hit first so less chance of damage to the motor.
I've seen them come off at the top of the ramp with the motor all the way down and then slide into the water.
More damage to your pride than the boat I think.

Fast forward to today, and that will net you a decent size fine in many areas! But to the OP... It happens... Don't worry about it. And yes, you WILL launch without the plug at some point!

I gotta ask...was that before or after you said "I saw this on a cartoon once and I think today is the day"?

Laughing with ya really.

You dodged a bullet on the boat and motor I think. Can't tell if the prop took a whack or not as its not pictured but if its only the skeg you're probably OK.

As for the wife...as others have mentioned she will remind you constantly about that. My only advice there...ear plugs....noise cancelling earplugs... just watch for flying frying pans when you ignore her!

Roller trailer? You can usually get away with it on a bunk trailer, but never a roller...

If it's not leaking and you don't get milky looking oil in your bottom end of motor you should be fine... except for the wife. She will never forget and remind every time you have a "fancy" idea...

Could be worse,
the whole boating world could have been watching,

Same thing happened to the hosts of a Oz fishing show a while ago,
Dropped a very expensive fairly new boat on the ramp while filming an episode
.
It's bemusing to see just how quickly sooo many folk turned up to offer all sorts of helpful...or not.. " advice " while they waited for a crane to turn up,

They will never live that down,
They made it into a blooper l think,

Hook, Line and Sinker is the show
