Was this trailer made at a facory, or is it a frankentrailer?

Can anyone identify this trailer? Someone painted it an awesome "special" blue color over everything including the rust. I think it says COX on the fender if you look real close right above the wheel. I would like to know what year it is too. When I refinish this trailer, I'd like to paint it the original color (I hope it wasn't blue).

I would classify it as being homemade by someone who did a reasonable job with what was available.
But, it was a LOOOONG Time Ago!

A good Sand Blasting will let you see what the real condition is.

That was some error message from the image host. Not real clear at first glance.

I do not have a title for the trailer. All I got was the boat title. He had lost the plate and registration along with any paperwork from the trailer (not sure if that story is factual), but said it was titled as a home made trailer.

Nope, Mr. Cox from R.J. Cox says it was a place in North Carolina that is closed now. Oh well the search continues...

Don't have any answers here, but I will say some folks' standards are set a little high. The condition of the trailer looks just fine and dandy to me. I'm sure it will do its job just fine yet from its appearance.

It has the old internal type of hub, that is all most imposable to find. You will be a lot better served to find a replacement trailer with a tittle.

It sure looks like it would be a MAJOR PAIN to change a flat tire!!! IF, you can find a spare wheel.

Awesome info, thanks to everyone. I am going to get a used trailer. What hubs am I looking for and what is the best trailer for my 14' boat? I don't have a lot to spend on it, but I want to have the basics easy to work on. I can refurbish the beds and rollers and wiring and stuff like that.

That looks like a scrap guy made it out of stuff he collected from local manufacturing plant dumpsters. Look at the fender, the cross brace at the edge of the diamind plate appears to be made from 3(!) pieces of flatbar(or maybe it's angle, hard to tell). The "manufacturer" clearly used whatever he had laying around, so it's either home built, or was built by AMC.

I would look for a trailer or an axle for your trailer that has hubs with lug nuts and studs. Either 4 or 5 lugs will be fine. That way you can easily change a flat tire and wheel.
