If I dont fix this my wife will be mad:eek:

There are small grease streaks on only some loads of clothes. GE says that their washing machines are desighned in such a way that it is impossible for transmission grease to leak into the machine. The hot water as my house isnt hot enough to break down pipes. I dont know what else could be causing this. We have city water. Any ideas
Thanks for the help.

I suspect that the cause of the streaks is going into the washer with the clothes. Not the washer's fault.

Thought it might have been those stubborn brown racing stripes in underwear, but maybe not.

Take a piece of clothes hanger wire and investigate the underside of the agitator. There could be a ink pen lodged under there.

Can you determine what the streaks are? I remember one of our kids got a crayon in our dishwasher and we had an incredible mess. Could the streaks be waxy in nature?

I tend to agree with the though of looking for some thing caught in the unit. Maybe a pen or crayon caught between the basket and the outer barrel?

It's been a few years since I had the problem with a Sears washer.....but how about the grease in the bearings on the agitator shaft and a worn/leaking seal? Pull the agitator and check for pens/crayons stuck between it and the tub. Then check the top of the agitator shaft for signs of grease being where it shouldn't be.

The GE guy is right about the no leak from the machine. The old GE washers used to leak a lot and ruin clothes. That agitator is hard to pull off..Try looping a leather belt or something similar under it and pull up real fast and hard and it should come off..Jim.
