Cool! A nearby lake is within a wildlife management area and has several Osprey nesting nearby. It's cool to sit and watch them swoop down and fly off with the fish I can't seem to catch.

Re: Watch'n for Wildlife.

This weekend we had to detour a little on the way
to the fishing hole. The fire fighters were out
on a make work project doing a prescribed burn in
the area. I guess they also call it a controlled
burn. Burning up the mountain side in an effort
to minimize forest fires in the area. Lots of
smoke and ash falling on the boat while out on the
water, nothing like the smell of campfire all over
every thing. :( . They must have chased all the
wildlife away as well. Got some nice lakers
though. There in the brine ready for smoking
tonight. Should of just left them on the deck of
the boat they would of got plenty of smoke during
the day. :D

Re: Watch'n for Wildlife.

Sounds like the weekend the wife and I had teo weeks ago. We packed a picnic lunch, the fresh water ultralights and the dawg, and headed 55miles south to the southern edge of the Everglades. I was born and raised in Miami, spent nearly every weekend of any memeories, at my aunt's camp off Turner river Grade, It's been 36years since my last visit to Turner River Grade, and much has changed. For one, there are only a handfull of homes out there, where it used to be camps every 500feet. The government bought-out much of the land, and it's now inside a preserve. The other differnce that struck me, (besides the lack of swamp buggies and camps, was the wildlife. There were gators EVERYWHERE! N/S, it looked like one of those Jungle-Larry Safari tourist traps, there were so many. We were literaly concerned about latting our mini pin out of the truck for a mini pee, for fear of her becomming a snack.
And the manatees down here are getting so common, they are hard to avoid striking at idle speed.
It's great to have the critters back! If there is one thing good to say about hippies, this is it. They spearheaded the "Earth Day" stuff, and absolutely got in the face of the government about it. And they suceeded I think..

Now gators thats what we need around here!
That would help reduce them pesky gofers. And
keep the cats in my back alley quite.

Not much wildlife around here! The locals done et it all! However, a 15 minute drive will bring me to some pretty boistrous baboons! Boy are they ugly - kind of remind me of my brother!
