Wate circulation issue

I have an 81 Johnson 70 HP outboard that has run great for a number of years with a minimum amount of maintenance. The other day I was out on a lake with a TON of debris and went through a really bad section with a LOT of junk on the surface and logs and stuff. After about half way through it, I notice there was not any water coming out of the motor so I shut it off and tried to see if the filters were clogged. I got a little water flow later on but not much. I pulled the lower unit off and have the water pump disassembled but really cannot see what might be the issue. Everything looks good and the impeller fits tight to the walls of the pump, the key and keyway look good, etc. Any other ideas?

And the cooling system is all clear above the pump, through the powerhead, and the outlet for the indicator? Not familiar with motors outside the smaller ones that I have, but I would check to be sure that there isn't some blockage above the pump. Is it possibly a thermostat that isn't opening? Good luck, at any rate!
