I just picked my boat from having it winterized. On the slip it say that the bellows was full of water and gear oil. The mechainic was gone home already and I didn't get to ask what causes this. Any clues? 1988 3.0L/Alpha 1

Hello.<br /> gear oil in the bellows comes from a leaking yoke seal. usually the yoke has grooved and cut the seal. a pressure test will be a definitive way to tell. water in the drive bellows means the boat sank on the trailer or your bellows is leaking, either way not good. check the ujoints for water intrusion and change the gimbal bearing as well. good luck and keep posting

Did they do anything to fix it. Obviously they had the drive off to determine the oil and water was in the bellows. Did they change bellows. Water in bellows fries u-joints, gimbal bearings. I would like to think they would have contacted you before they put it back together

The drive came off for the winter. We found a brand new in the crate Alpha 1 for 1300.00 that is going to be put on with new bellows. The old drive was going to be repainted....but the new drive took care of that. Many thanks...Ted

The white paint is bad and it has a small chunk taken out of the skeg by the prop it's the size of a dime...the gear ratio is 1:98. other than that it's fine.
