Water coming from midsection of a '95 25hp

Just bought this little motor and I'm having a problem with the cooling system.

I took the LU off today, and the waterpump seems to be decent. I greased it and reassembled it.

The motor starts fine but I barely get a few drops from the pee hole. (only ran it about 20 secs)Water was gushing out of the cutout (where you can see the shift rod).

I can blow in the top tube and hear air leaking out around the mid section of the motor (not up on the terminology sorry!)

I have the tools and the time, just not the talent!
Let me say a big THANK YOU for the help everyone here provides.

Suggestions would be appreciated

Welcome aboard, cad. Was the water leaking before dropping the lower? If the leak started after reinstalling the lower, maybe the water tube isn't seated properly. Also, is the tell-tell hose clear? Bugs like to plug these hoses with mud.

And sort of a rule of thumb - Anytime time you open the pump, replace the impeller. It's cheap insurance.

Thanks for the reply GA-Boater.
It was doing the same thing before I dropped the LU to check the impeller and it looks like it needs to be replaced. I also found the water tube seal to be in bad shape, but I wrapped it in gorilla tape, just to see if I got any better circulation.

After a little reading, it looks like this motor has a thermostat. I never gave it a chance to warm up so maybe that is the reason I'm not getting any flow out of the pilot hole at the top (or just a few drops).

I'm going to remove the thermostat when I get home and see if I get a stream. This will hopefully tell me if I need to replace any of the top seals.
Here's a couple of pics of what I found::

Judging by the seals and what looks like a crack in the impeller blade at 3 o'clock/tip curling, a complete kit might be in order.

Is the tin boat a LoneStar?

Just for others reference, I replaced the blade, housing, and water tube seal. What was throwing me was that I didn't know that this motor has a thermostat , so no water was immediately coming out of the top pilot hole.

To check the cooling system, I took off the thermostat housing, removed the thermostat (which had a bug cocoon in it!) and tried the motor without that in place.
Result was a good flow of water up through the top of the engine.

Now that I knew everything was working I put the thermostat back in and let it idle to temp. Sure enough a nice stream started up when warm.

GA_Boater- The title on the boat just says a 1959 "Rex" boat, but I'm not sure what kind it is ??
