Disappointed...bought a '85 searay a couple months back. Spent the last month or so working on the misc. problems to get it water ready. Wife and I took today off to drop it in the lake for the first time. After dropping in the water, I popped the engine cover and noticed water in the bilge (hadn't been in the water for more than a few minutes). I started inspecting the transom/drive area and noticed a trickle of water coming in at the drive, just above the driveshaft. Looked to be coming in around where the wires pass through for the trim limit switches, but couldn't be sure.

My question...is there a way at home that I can test this AND to replace this rubber....is it major removal? I've got the manual, but am so frustrated after all the work, that I considering selling.

You will need to pull the outdrive as water is getting in your driveshaft bellows.

I did remove the drive...the bellows were fine, the ujoints and all gaskets replaced. The water is coming in above the driveshaft, not around the gimbal/driveshaft. Looks like it was coming in as stated earlier where the rubber seals the wires to the housing. Just trying to gauge how tough to fix.

For the sake of any future searches....I found the problem. After removing the drive tonight, I found a small 1/4" dia. hole in the drive bellows. You fellers were correct.
