Hi all,
Long story short, I had a remanufactured lower unit put on over past winter. Took it out for first time in Sunday. Everything was great until we got to sandbar. That's when I noticed water in bilge area..enough about inch below oilpan..realized my bilge pump wasn't working and water was getting higher..said we got to go. Was sluggish yet to g back..it was clear water so I thought it was 3 months of rain water that came from front..drained it and put back in..still diddnt run great wide open..went back to beach and was still coming In..seemed like down by plug area.. I recalled plug.i checked drive and exhaust bellow from out side and looked good. Since they put a cables on im thinking a shift bellow?..but c ant find it on outside.. where is it located at?.. I have a 96 re. Volvo penta with a sx. outdrive. Just want to check it over..
Thanks, Robert

could be the transom shield gasket area because your transom may be soft and the blow from running aground highlighted the issue.

first, put a 300# buddy on the outdrive and have him bounce up and down, if there is any movement between the transom shield and the transom, time to do some fiberglass work.

if there is zero movement, then pull the drive to inspect the bellows.

Hey Scott,
Am I looking for movement on the outside correct? Also do you know where the shift bellow is located on this? Also wondering if just backing it into water still on trailer to see where it leaks?
Thank you for your advice

Didn't know they sold OEM manuals on here...through the volvopenta store?
BTW....the OEM service manual is actually multiple manuals. You get them all?

It might have been a link from boat store to volvo penta store..already have engine one..only one I ordered was sterndrive. Service/repair manual for dp/sx drive for my particular year...i would assume my boat guy would have checked transom and u joints since lower unit was seized due to having no oil in lower unit from a hitting a rock.. I bought book so I can have it to learn how they work.
Thanks..im learning a lot already

Sounds like you did get the OEM manuals...that's good.

I would also assume that your guy would have put new bellows on but who knows. If you need new bellows, get OEM ones.

Update.. water is coming in through transom. Must have been due to hitting the rock that caused all the damage in first place? Can I use marine adhesive or take it back and get new seal put on.?
Thanks
