water coming out of top of leg

1998/115 hp yamaha 2 stroke just replaced water pump kit now have a strong stream of water out the pisser port but also have quite abit of water coming out the top of the leg next to the transom can anyone suggest why this would happen

Did you use an aftermarket kit including the pump housing? They don't contain the seal which fits into the water pump for the copper tubing to line up and seal in.

Bought the kit from yamaha but didnt see any seal for the tube. am I right in thinking as long as I have strong flow out the pisser i am getting lots of cooling water through my engine?

Not always. The seal for the tube is a nesessity.

You are losing part of your water flow. Just becauses there's still enough to give you a healthy telltale is misleading. Correct me if I'm wrong, wrenches, but the telltale is simply a telltale - it's not ALL the exit water from the engine. Besides you really want that leaking water to fill up your middle unit?
