Took mine apart today while checking why my motor was not pumping water. It is a very simple valve. (looked complicated from the outside)
3 connections on it.
Looking at the photo
Left hand port is fed from the thermostat housing hose
Right hand port outlets to the tell tale
Bottom port exits to the exhaust.

At idle the right hand port is closed but the outlet to the exhaust port is open.
As the throttle increases it gradually opens to the right hand port till fully open.
At 2/3 throttle and above both of the other ports are wide open.

Although I am a mechanical engineer I am wondering the need for this ???
I understand there was a conversion in I think 1993 that deleted this valve.
I can almost see why at the moment.
However I am prepared to be educated by those of you that know these things inside out.
Photo is for reference.
Ken.

I took my water control valve off years ago and updated the system so its more like the 1993 system. The temperature is not quite as stable above 2500 RPM as it was (runs a little cooler), but the higher temperatures at low RPM are gone.

Did you, ezeke, have to replace/swap thermos and/or their seats? Thermo covers?
Didn't they use Vernatherms?

Use the same thermostats that kenmyfam has (#434137) . Metal covers, springs, gaskets from 1992-1993. Remove the water control valve. re-route the hoses.

I understand...one more quick one...is there a bypass valve to route the hoses into...does that need to be changed...spring pressures, etc....

A bit more...so you bring it to a 1993 year level....not newer...like up to 1996 design, for instance....1996 doesn't use vernatherms. keep it at 1993 design?

The later replacement covers for the thermostats will not have hose outlets. Part number will be 333967.

The later covers do not use the diaphragm, they use a gasket # 329830 instead.

You will need large springs, part #336765 or 0333858.

You can use the newer thermostat assemblies, part # 434137. The working parts are 143 degree vernatherms. You don't need to change the seats unless you change the assembly.

See the thumbnail OEM ones are white.

Use the forum search engine and enter 333967 for most of the discussions.
