2000 Four Winns 17' Horizon
I/O 190 h.p. 4.3 Vortec w/Volvo SX stern drive

Ok. here is the whole story.

Last year I pulled my boat out of the water after sitting for about a month. It rained alot and got water in the bottom of the boat up to the bottom of the motor. I drained it, started it, ran it around the lake before I pulled it out. It seemed to be running rough like it was missing.

I winterised the boat myself. I took the hoses off, drained the water out, filled the hoses with AV antifreeze until water came out the the other end of the hose. I then took the little plugs out of the top of the exhasut manifold and filled those with the antifreeze. (Someone told me to do this. I'm not sure if I should have or not. I did this until the pink liquid ran out of the exhaust on the lower unit. I then went to turn over the motor and it cranked over a couple time then wouldnt turn over anymore. I figured I would deal with in in the spring.

This season, of course my boat owuldnt start. Took the starter out, got it fixed, and it wouldnt turn over. took all of the spark plugs out, turned over the motor and pink RV antifreeze started coming out of the spark plug holes. I DO NOT have water in the oil.

Anyone know what is going on here?

You have ingested the antif into the cylinders when you winterized it.There is a good chance there may be some damage from sitting all winter like this.also when you cranked the motor in the fall the anti in the cylinders damage could have been done.In the spring the reason the motor would not crank is because the cylinders were full with anti or they are frozen up.remove plugs, pour some marvel mystery oil in the carb, let sit a day and come back and try to crank by hand and wrench and cross your fingers.Charlie

When you pulled the plugs out of the manifolds I bet you poured antifreeze straight into the cylinders. Just a guess....by the way, welcome to I-boats.. hang around and you will learn a lot, I have....good luck

Re: Water from my sparkplug holes

Crazy. My motor will turn over. All the water is out of the cylinders. I sprayed some WD40 in there and cranked it over more.

I'm otw to get some new plugs and get my battery tested for amperage. All of this cranking seems to have put a load on my battery, and I'm not sure if it's good anymore as my stater is sometimes clicking instead of cranking. I hope it's not the starter as I just put the thing back in. Starters are not fun on I/Os, but that's another problem all together, and I can figure that out myself. I'll check this post when I get back to see if you all have any further advice for me. I'll pick up some Mystery Oil just incase. Should I still put the MMO in the carb now that you know it cranks over?

Dont bother, you can spray it down the carb or just pour a little oil in the carb.Get everything in there lubed up before cranking.I thought it was crusted up in there.sometimes when you have water or anti in the cyls it acts exactly like a dead battery or a bad starter.hopefully there is nothing in there that is not allowing the pistons to crank.thats what the water does when it is in there.Good luck Charlie

I got it running. It runs great. But now it's over heating. I don't feel any water in my main water hoses and yes it is over heating according to my temp gauge. Any Ideas?

Did it run it without the flushing attachment? You could have damaged your impellor.
