Hello. I have a 1989 mercruiser with a 5.0 Litre Alpha I drive.

I just bought a downrigger speed and temperature electronic instrument and with it, it needs to be connected back to a water ground.

Will the engine stud ground get me back to a water ground or is there a ground on the outdrive I can connect to?

Thanks.

Re: Water ground

Engine stud should work. You just need to get it attached to the boat's "ground" and the engine surely is "grounded". Mercruiser goes to great lengths to make sure the engine and all stern drive components are at the same electrical potential in order for the sacrificial anodes to work, so you'll be fine.
