water hoses on water pump lower unit

I cannot get the lower unit on my evinrude 85 hp (1976) to go back together, the water hoses will not line up with fittings on water pump. they keep moving around. whats the trick?<br />

dead,<br /><br />I believe there is only one tube that lines up with a grommet in the water pump housing. The tube should remain in the upper section. If it is not in the upper section now, put it back in and then line up the lower unit with the tube.

I used a hanger to hold the tube in place til I got the low end lined up than pull the hanger out and slip it togather

Thanks all for the advice! I called the local boat shop, they were reluctant to tell me the trick... there were actually two hoses there, both with a second plastic "cheaters" over them. The trick is to pull these four inch cheaters down over the hoses, get them started where the other hoses go, then push the lower unit up. These extensions guided the metal tubes into their respective connections.... so easy!!!<br />thanks again!
