Water In Bellows But No Rip

Hi Folks,
I?ve read about some ways water could get into the U-joint bellows other than a rip in the bellows, but could someone please list them all for me?

Also, is it possible that condensation could be the source of bellows water in the springtime if the boat is left on its trailer over the winter in sub-freezing weather?

2005 Volvo-Penta SX drive, 4.3 liter V6 engine.

Thank you,
Bob

Could be leaking where the drive pushes against the bellows. If it's the original bellows, it's due for replacement anyway. Use the OEM bellows, I have had almost every aftermarket bellows leak around that sealing surface.
Another strong possibility is the plastic tube for the grease zirk for the gimbal bearing. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=380502

I'm sorry, I don't understand where you are referring when you say "where the drive pushes against the bellows". Thanks.

The nose of the outdrive seats up against the bellows. That is what helps keep the bellows dry.

I had wondered if the tapered fit was really enough to keep water out because I didn't understand that the housing went that far in. Now it makes sense. Thanks for explaining that.
