Hi,

My Yamaha 9.9 2-stroke 1984 started to sputter at low rews and got a bit less max power. Found booth plugs to be soaked in water...

Any ideas on where to start looking on this particular engine to find where the water is entering the cylinders?

I think that the cylinder head is gone. That's a problem in these engines. Take the head off and you can see the problem. The water is coming in to the combustion chamber. I've seen many of these. Give your e-mail adress, so I can send you a picture of a head to You.

Agree the older Yamaha's the material the blocks and heads are made of don't hold up over time. The new engines have anodes in the block and heads.I have seen cylinder head failure many times on older Yamaha's. Hole from water jacket into the cylinder dome.(water in cylinder/s)
