I have a 1987 Johnson 88hp SPL. It has four cylinders. One of the cylinders leaks water out around the sparkplug and thus does not fire. But the engine does run on the other three cylinders. What may be my problem and how can I fix it?

Remove and replace the water jacket cover.

You did not say whether water was getting into the cyl.

If this is the case...Remove and inspect the head gasket and cyl.

TMD

I not a expert on outboards but I think that the head gasket my be bad or you might have a warped head because from what i remember from my 15 hp engine when i replaced my head gasket. Water goes through the head to cool it and the gasket is what keeps the water out of cylinder. So there might not be a good seal there somewhere for that cylinder that has water in it. More likely a bad gasket because if you had a warped head there would be water in the others more than likely.
