I have a SeaRay 175 Mercruiser 3.0 LX that is getting water in the last cylinder (the cylinder furthest back towards the out drive).

I've read another post concering the same problem and a sugestion was given to repair either the Main Seal and/or the Exhaust Gasket.

Never had a stern drive boat before, so I could use all the help I can get.

Engine Info:
4 Cylinder 3.0 /LX Mercruiser Engine.
Alpha One out drive.

Re: Water in Cylinder

To be honest you will probably be looking at the manifold. You need to have it checked for leaking. There isn't any way for water to get in from the exhaust gasket. There is ways for the manifold to leak into the intack or the exhaust prot and get water in the cylinder. I just spent 600 to fix mine for my 6 cylinder.

Same problem.

Re: Water in Cylinder

Just had the same problem in the same cylinder. Turned out to be a crack in the manifold. OEM part cost $295, but came with all gaskets and bolts that were needed. I have a 1991, so it may be different for yours.

Had both the riser and manifold pressure checked at a machine shop for $40. You may find my post and the replies helpful.

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=006575#000003

I had to also pull the head on mine, but replacement of manifold and riser was not hard at all. Good Luck!!
