well I found water in cylinder #5 and #7 :(

Now I do know this is going to be a big task to fix due to my lack of knowlage
SO with that being said what could it be and where should I start to look to solve this problem.

ANY input on this would be great

thanks

If you do not have water in your oil, it may not be as bad as you think.....
Pull the riser & man. on that side & pressure test them.....
My gyess is that the either the riser, manifold or the joint/gasket between them is bad......
If they are old replace them or pressure test them, if you must......;)

Re: water in cylinders 5 and 7

well after doing some reading about this problem I saw people saying this could happen from stopping to quick in the water and water coming in that way. Is that true? I know I was doing that alot (new to inboards and didnt know that could happen)
The guy I bought the boat from said they were replaced last year I think, they dont look that old but again what do I know :)

thanks

How do I go about pressure testing them?
Also is it ok to run the boat for XX amount of time in a barrel and then recheck to see if they took on water again? I ordered a new starter and it will be here today so I have not started it up yet. Will I have any problems starting it?

Thanks

It should start....
If the mans are that new, most likely they are not a problem....
You can definately ingest water after a high speed shut down.....;)

OK it started right up. I pulled all the plugs and cranked it over several times to make sure it got all the water out and changed all the plugs while I was at it, I ran it for about 15 mins submerged in a barrel of water then sprayed some seafoam into the carb and shut it down. I am going to pull the plugs to see if there is any water in there before I start it back up.

will running it this way let water in if in fact the problem is a leak?

thank you for the help

Yes, it will tell you if it has a leak, using the barrel...
Check it immediately, by pulling the two plugs that had water, if it is present again, you need to pull/test the man/riser.....;)

Re: water in cylinders 5 and 7

well good news! No water in there :)
So I would guess that it got in there from my asinine driving.....er..ah....rather stoppping.

I will check it again next time out on the boat.

Man my last 2 boats were outboards and they seemed unstopable but this one seems to need a little more attention.....reminds me of an old 77 GMC I had.

Thanks again for all your help

As long as you keep the engine running you should not get water ingestion.....;)
