Water in cylinders. How did it get there?

I recently got to experience the joy of hydrolock. I got water in all four cylinders of the left bank. My mechanic told me when he pulled the drive my flaps looked ok. From what I hear it might be the risers leaking.

bad riser
bad manifold
stoppping too quickly and getting a backwash up the pipe
turning the key off while having foward motion (backwash)
Dieseling (hi temp, bad timing, poor fuel, carbon buildup)

The day it happened it was rough out. Like 3-5 ft. seas. Water was coming over the stern like crazy. Thats why I am wondering if that was the problem.

Nah. That may have dumped water onto the engine but not into it and only on one side.

You need new manifolds and elbows.

Yep, bad manifold and or riser. Your Mech says that your flaps are okay, so the water shouldn't have rushed in that way. And if it did, both sides would have water. Since you only had one side, you've got a bad manifold and or riser.
