I JUST GOT THIS BOAT FROM A FRIEND AND THERE WAS WATER IN ENGINE OIL. HOW DO I KNOW IF IT WAS A HEAD GASKET OR SOMETHING ELSE WITHOUT TEARING THE TOP END APART? IS THE BLOCK OK W/SALT WATER THAT WAS IN IT? HE DID CHANGE THE OIL BEFORE I GOT IT. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Re: WATER IN ENGINE OIL

Run motor on muffs to warm oil and change it immediately.Run motor with fresh oil on muffs and keep an eye on the new oil for contamination. Also keep an eye on everything else for any water leaks due to cracks. If nothing is evident after running motor take a look at the back of the oil fill cap for moisture. This should get you started.Charlie

Re: WATER IN ENGINE OIL

The exhaust manifold could have a crack in it. This will allow water into the cylider(s) and thus into the oil. I had a cracked manifold due to overheat, and the engine would run fine at higher RPM, but at idle it would die. This was because at idle the water was entering the cylinder and killing the engine. At higher RPMs the water was just being vaporized. Have it pressure tested. If that is not it then the head gasket/head could be the problem. You could also have a cracked block, but that would only happen due to freeze damage.
