By the level on the dipstick, froth and milky color in the oil. Remove it by changing the oil.<br /><br />Finding the source... now that's another story. Water does not migrate to the crankcase by accident.

I just had same issue, but I know how water got in there, you can easily tell if it runs and you open the valve covers and can see that the oil is running a milky color. Somtimes depending on the water sludge mixture that can plug the hole in the dipstick, you can see perfectly clean oil from dipstick and fine level. That is what mine showed till I started it and checked the valve covers and actually pumped a little out through the dipstick.
