Water in gear case?

So the other day I had my boat back out, and when shifting into forward gear it would t click into gear inless I went back and gave a little push on the shift lever. But then as I accelerated it popped out of gear. Mind you when not running it shifts into gear no problem. Would the dog clutch be the issue here?

Also when draining the oil out to inspect the gears my oil looked white as the picture shows. Would this be due to water?

Did you try disconnecting the remote shift lever and try running it? See if it slips out of gear with the shift cable disconnected and manually shifted into forward. If it stays in gear, then your cable needs adjusting. If it still jumps out of gear, you most likely have a worn clutch dog/forward gear. You have a bad seal somewhere causing water to get into the gearcase. It could be as simple as missing crush washers on the drain and vent screws, but most likely is a propshaft seal, driveshaft seal or shift rod O-ring. You didn't mention what motor?

Oh wow yeah I Ment to include that, lower and mid section is from a 1959 seahorse 50hp
The power head is a 1964 star flight 90hp

And it does the same without the shift cable.
I'll add that sometimes it just slips well other times it jumps out of gear.

Time to open up the foot and investigate to see what is the problem with both the slipping out of gear and where the water is coming in from. Gear slip sounds like clutch dog and gear but until you verify that, it is only a guess.

Ok so I've got a good look at the clutch and it does have some rounding off on it. I'm assuming this to be the issue.
