Water in mid-section

Just tore down a 125 force outboard swapped mid-section and replaced upper motor mounts and kingpin. Now when I put the engine in, water comes in from around the kingpin cap and lower shock area and fills the midsection with water which causes all the exhaust to enter upper cowling and bog the engine. The idle exhaust boot is intact, the middle leg seal has seen better days but seams to be holding. Would a gap filler work to seal that lower shock area?

Hmmm! That's one I haven't heard before.

The kingpin is at or below the air intake so the water would be coming from the intake if at all. So, I am not quite sure I understand.

What I am thinking is : The kingpin is hollow and has a cap on the top. Is this cap still there or is it missing? Without that cap I believe it is possible for water to blow up the kingpin and into the lower cowl. If this is the case, simply fill the kingpin with caulking or the sealing foam in cans.

However, even with the midleg filled with water, exhaust still should not fill the cowl. Exhaust path is ONLY through the snout or idle relief vents. Re check the boot to see that it is properly seated in the taper in the rear shroud.

Hope that helps some

Thanks Frank...it is hollow so I'll cap it and see... it only smokes (alot) when its in the water...runs fine on the muffs. Also, is 1-2 inches of water above that middle leg seal normal or should NO water be in there. I just never noticed it before so its a bit distracting while troubleshooting.

I think I misunderstood you. I took it to mean that water was coming into the lower cowling around the kingpin whle the boat was moving.

If the area around the lower leg is filling with water while sitting, that is normal.
