I have water in the oil in my 1989 5.0 litre OMC cobra outdrive. Just got through servicing it with new oil. Where is the most likley place to be getting water in?

Boots. There is a hole in there some where. If not you will have to do a press test on the outdrive.

pull the prop. there are 2 oil seals on the prop shaft. sometimes fishing line gets wrapped around & ruins these seals. could be seals around water pump shaft. did u pull the drive? check mating surface gasket. how about o ring on dip stick? drain screw o ring?

If you serviced the outdrive make sure you put thread tape on the threads... Might get in that way... Just a little bit goes a long way..

I too just serviced my cobra and have the same problem. I pulled the top cover plate to fill the gear oil and did not replace the o-ring on the cover plate. I'm hoping this is my problem. Is this how you filled your stern drive.
