ok I have a 1985 Mercruiser 170 and I have read that the seals between the water pump and the cam can wear grooves in the cam to allow water to pass thru into the oil. the pullers that are used to pull the balancer and rotor off the crankshaft will not fit in the small space between the engine well and the engine itself. It looks like I need to lift the front of the motor 4 or 5 inches to clear everything. My question is can I just lift the front of the motor without damaging anything or am I going to have to pull the whole motor out to do this fix. Even if I have to pull the stern drive off it seems like it would be easier to just lift the front than to pull the whole motor out. any info on this matter is Greatly appreciated. Thankyou in advance. Scott :confused:

You can just lift the front, but the drive will have to come off.
