Hi there yoll once again. Could somebody help me, i have been on hear before ref. a 454 chev big block 96 model which i had placed in a 27 ft cruiser, the old engine was replaced with a new long motor but all my assesories were put onto the engine being the rockercovers, inlet manifold etc. Then the mechanic put the wrong spark plugs in and stuffed the engine. The engine filled up with water and seized.

We were still unsure how the water got in but thought it might have come from the risers. Now i have put a reconditioned enigine in with brand new rings, pistons, lifters etc, the heads were machined, but i still used my old inlet manifold. Now water was spewed out from the dip stick, i shut down the engine took out the spark plugs but they were dry. The oil is milky, i didnt run the engine for very long but some how the sump filled up pretty quick.

Could it be the ilet manifold? wat else could happen?
Regards Dean SYDNEY

i dont no big blocks well but the exaust could not put in water that fast when its running

they usally leak it in to the cylinders when its turned off

the intake could sure leak a lot of water fast

you can block of the water lines and presssure test the cooling system to track down the leak

i would do a quick oil change to dry up what you can ASAP even if you have to dry crank the motor with out running to pump clean oil in to stop any rusting

tommays

Re: water in sump

Sounds like an intake manifold to head mating problem. Are you using the propper marine intake manifold gasket ? There are water ports on the head that get blocked off (not used) in a marine application.

Ozzie, I have a 27 foot 2750 SunBridge. I just took apart my engine today (chev 350) because last week i found "milky oil" in the valve covers. Turns out that it circulated everywhere. Luckily, I cought it in time and no damage was done. Make sure you have servicable gaskets, and all your bolts are tourqed to the proper ft/lbs. Goto www.mrwrench.com for all your tourqe specs.

This is a good start and eliminates alot.

Re: water in sump

Thanks guys for your reply. The intake manifold is now being xrayed for cracks, the gaskets used were the correct gaskets, the only thing i can think of is that if when they reconditioned the heads then they might have milled them and not the intake manifold. Is there any other way water could get into the sump quickly. I only ran the engine for approx 1min. Was running really well.
