Water inlets at dry joint ellbows

Hello,

my dry joint ellbows have two water inlets. So in one I will put in the connector for the water hose of the closed cooling to let the seawater out and the other one is pluged.

So as you can see in the picture it would make my setup a little easier to use the upper hole insted of where the connector is put in now.

So my question is if there is any reason why I should use the lower opening insted of the upper one and if there are any disadvantages if I would change that.

Thank you for your help.

Michael

If you use the upper hole there will be a pocket of water that does not move. It will get hotter and hotter and eventually boil. Uneven heating is one of the things that cracks cast iron.

Use the lower hole, as intended.

Hello Chris,

thank you for your explanation. That makes perfect sense and so I will stay with the lower opening.

Regards
