Re: water intake

I run the motor on muffs and check the intake hose (disonnect and verify fresh water coming in, and good flow)

100 - 140 is pretty normal.

If your impeller goes out you'll know it - it will overheat pretty quick

90% of the Mercruiser engines call for a 160 degree thermostat...so running any lower is not normal.

If your gauge is working correctly, then you need to make sure that you are running long enough to reach operating temperature...and if you are, then do some more digging.

Happy boating!

Re: water intake

honestly i don't know if it is working correct or not all the other ones seem to work fine. and i know i'm gonna sound dumb but i don't think its a mercruiser. all i really know is that it says omc cobra on the out drive and it has a 4. something v6 Chevy motor in it.

Find the temperature sending unit on the engine...usually at the thermostat housing. Ground the single wire going to it with the key in the "ON/RUN" position, and the gauge should move all the way to the right (pegged).

This verifys that the gauge, and the wire going to it, are working.
