I recently bought this 1982 Bayliner with an aq175 motor and a 280 outdrive. The motor was cracked and we repowered it with a 4.3 from an s10 pickup. We are having a blast with it pulling a tube and just cruising around. It does have a small problem in that it takes on a few gallons of water in about 4 hours time. It never gets enough that the bilge pump will pump it out though. There was caulking around the transom plate that was coming off so we cleaned this all off and put a nice bead of clear silicone around here it helped it but it still leaks about half what it did before. I tried tightening the transon bolts but only one was a little loose. I can't reach the bottom ones though. We had the outdrive off when the engine was out because we had to replace the bearings inside the bellhousing. We also replaced the seals in the bellhousing and the driveshaft bellows looked good. It does have a crack in the water return hose that is on the outside of the transom plate. This is the hose that goes through the transom plate and makes a right angle turn then goes through the side of the transome plate. Water comes out of this when the engine is running. I have a new one ordered but it has not come in yet. I really dont think this would allow water to leak into the boat though. Where else could the water be leaking?
