Water leak 4 hp

I'm looking at a 1990 4 hp evinrude. On the side of the block by the starter recoil there is a flat plate held on by screws. Water leaks out of the joint between the plate and the block. If you rev the engine, it squirts out with a bit of pressure near the top.

Is this something that can be fixed with a gasket or does it indicate a major problem with the engine.

Exhaust cover plate. Just needs a new gasket. Surprising though!

Go to http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=bf6ad09c53cead335fcfd8a6471c0f7f locate your engine and look at the crankcase and cylinder section to find the part number.

There were two different 4hp engines so make sure you check the model number and get the right one!
