water leak at lower unit

I have just rebuilt a 1981 Rude V6 150hp, Serial No. J0001034, Model E150TRXC1H. Upon startup on muffs, I noticed a lot of water leaking from the joint of the lower unit and the exhaust housing and then after a few minutes also from the vicinity of the top of the exhaust housing. Is this to be expected/normal and could the leak from the top of the exhaust housing be from to much water pressure at the muffs? Is this something to worry about or cause problems later?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: water leak at lower unit

The joint between the L/U and the exhaust tower is NOT sealed. You many get some spillage. However, it sounds like you have leaks-everywhere.

I'm doubting that you have ther L/U fully seated-water pipe, driveshaft, shift shaft, etc.

My suggestion: Re-drop the L/U and pay special attention as to how the water pipe(s) connect, along with the shift shaft.

Also, you cannot judge an L/U seal question unless you have replaced the fill/drain plud screw seals.

I have no problem with the fill/drain plugs. They are new and are not part of the problem. The problem is all water leaks where the lower unit bolts to the mid section and as I said in the vicinity of the top of the exhaust housing.
