First, I'm new to this post just to set the facts. I recently got my boat back to running after I lost two Risers and exhaust manifolds and when I did get it running, I heard a bearing type noise and discovered after it started up that a little water was spraying up from the front bottom half of the engine. I thought maybe the impeller was again or leaking so I replaced it but then I noticed that the water if dripping from behind it where that spline shaft comes out from the engine. Is this the Jack-shaft? And if so, how difficult is it to replace that bearing and seal. The engine has only about 56 hours on it. We don't get to use the craft much and I'm in the process of fixing it and putting it up for sale.

Any thoughts?

Pull the pump off the harmonic balancer (3 Allen headed bolts, 5/16" or 8mm) and rebuild it with a new bearing and seal. Plenty of details and part numbers on here, do a search. Many will tell you need a new pump (Part No 3812520) but for $25 as opposed to $350 it is a bargain (?379 in the UK).

The "jackshaft" is usually found in the rear.
They are used for mid engine instalations.
They connect the motor to the drive, kinda like a cars driveshaft.

Thanks, that makes more since... I was looking at the view of the engine area and realized it wasn't the Jackshaft and another writer spoke up and informed me on this as well. Now I'm looking for the parts. I've found the whole kit but that like you said, 350.00 and I've already replaced the impeller and all that....

Thanks, that helped. I wasn't sure. Makes since now.
