Water leak between block and midsection?

I have an S250TURV and have developed a water leak!! I am leaking water from what apears to be the forward part of the powerhead between the powerhead and midsection. There is a seal there (looks like a 1/8 inch rubber gasket and water is coming out from underneath it.) I do not see any water leaking from any of the hoses. Does this mean powerhead removal? Is their somewhere else it could be leaking from? Thanks...

Any thoughts on what could cause a water leak in this location?

Sorry to keep posting but i need some direction on this. Is there a seal that can cause this leak, or do i have a hole in the water jacket?

My guess is it is a corrosion problem and probably will need to pull power head to look, but I do not know for sure. You may try to do a forum search for corrosion problem to see what pops up.

SX250TURV. The engine is and always has been used exclusively in salt water. Here is a pic to help with my explination.

typically water leaking from the tiller area means the water passage between the banks under the powerhead had corroded through.
its time to remove the powerhead for a look.

If it is the cooling passage between the banks is this part of the powerhead or midsection? I will pull it and take look, but I am trying to figure out where it might be. Will I be buying a new powerhead if this is what is leaking, or is it something that can be welded?

the passage is part of the powerhead.
no water passage in the mid section there.
dunno about the welding, buddy of mine sheathed his with a piece of thin AL then slathered it rather generously with JB weld a few years ago and its still going.

Re: Water leak between block and midsection?

Well, a couple of weeks turned into a month but..... I got the powerhead off. I do not see any major corrosion--I think that the seal was leaking. The powerhead came off without any sticking whatsoever. When we pulled my friend's powerhead we had to pry it off with 2x4s. Mine seperated with the slightest effort. Here are a couple of pics. Does anybody see anything that needs attention besides obviously cleaning the gasket sealing surfaces?
