Well decided to take the boat out today and give it a once over. Everything appeared fine until an hour later, I had a nice drizzle of water coming in. Almost filled the engine compartment.

I have an 72, 18' MFG speed boat with a Mercruiser 165hp, inline 6 I/O.

This leak was just above the boats drain plug. Possibly the transom plate. It's very hard to get to and see but I could feel it coming from behind that plate where the bolts attach.

Anyone have any good ideas of how to fix this?
If it requires pulling the outboard section off, does anyone know of a step by step for disassembly?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... A couple of possibilities come to mind,...

If yer Lucky, the drive Bellows or shift cable bellows is ripped, 'n leakin',...
You can try lookin' 'em over, with the drive trimmed up, or better yet, Pull the drive....

If yer Unlucky, the transom wood is Rotten,...
That'll mean pullin' the Entire driveline, 'n glassin' in New wood,....

Rotten although it's a fiberglass boat? Don't just think that have the gasket seal between the gimbal housing and the hull would fix the problem?

It's not a hose. I thoroughly checked those.

My alpha leaked where the trim hoses attach to under the bottom of the gimble ring. The gasket was ripped somehow. Thought it was the bellows but that did not cure it. First for me! Worked on a lot of em'

I just did a reverse leak by carefully putting water in the bilge and allowing it to leak to the outside and that is my exact problem! I have water coming out of where the trim hoses attach to the gimbal.

If I choose to replace this, what do I need to be mindful of? Will there be a ton of fluid leaking out of I take that off to replace the seal?
I'm not at mercruiser/outdrive savvy as I am regular engines repairs.

Ayuh,... It's just a manifold, there's air behind it,... 'n the lines from the pump,...

It'll leak off what's in the lines,...
