I have the following problem with my 1988, 150-hp, Evinrude. My motor was overheating. I went along and changed the entire water pump housin, thermostats, puppet valves, all deflectors and cleaned all the water channels and the motor is still overheating. I also noticed that there is cold water dripping down the mid section of the motor and comes out by the side of the lower unit. I know that this is not water that is coming out of the motor after circulating in it, because the water is cold when you touch it, which leads me to belief that there must be a water leak some where between the water pump and the powerhead which is preventing the right amount of water to enter into the powerhead in order to cool it properly. Does anyone know of all the possible reasons as to where this leak could be coming from, and if so, what do I need to do in order to fix it. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Check the gromet seal where the tube that comes from the water pump joins the powerhead.

I was referring to the gromet seal at the other end of the pickup tube (at the powerhead not at the water pump).

Jimd, by bad for misunderstading you, actually that was a posibility that did crossed my mind but I wanted to get some opinions first on the problem. Being that the case, what is the easiest way to check that gromet seal, do I need to remove the powerhead in order to get to it or there is a easier way to check it?

I don't know that particular motor. Get a manual if you don't have one. Somebody here may know the particulars on access, I just know they can swell or get pinched and block the flow sometimes.

Any other possible areas as to where this leak could be coming from?
