My problem Is this the boat leaks water only while in reverse the boat can sit in the water all day and not leak a drop of water into the bilge but u put the boat Into reverse and water come in somewhere just above the drain plug it seems like it where the y pipe bolts to the transom but not sure just really wanting some suggestions

I don't have any pics of the transom with me at the moment. But the transom seems solid as far as I can tell. This may sound crazy but what do u mean buy coming in under the cap

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Sounds like a rotten transom,...... The thrust pulls the housin' off the fiberglass allowin' the water in,....

Bondo well I got home and did some checking and just goin by feel it seems as if that plate above the drain hole right behind the y pipe is lose and it also feels like there should b two bolts on the bottom holding against the transom but there is only 1 if that makes any sense at all

Ayuh,.... I don't do Volvos, But,.... Whatever yer feelin' is either the inner transom plate, or the transom housin',....

Neither should be Loose,....

Grab yer digital camera, 'n pop off a bunch of pictures of the area,......
Post anything ya think might be it, at a photo hostin' site, 'n link 'em back here to yer thread,....

You could raise the drive, put blockin' under it, 'n trim it down abit, pushin' up on the drive, to mimic the thrust of reverse in the water too,......

Well the plate I am talkin about is the transom bearing plate and both of the bolts are there but the plate is loose what could cause that and could that water leak in from there

Well bondo u may b right I hope not but u could be. I have done the hammer test and it all sounds pretty solid I have even pulled up and pushed down on the out drive and no flex on the back of the transom. So other than pulling the drive and engine I not real sure what else to do I really don't have the time for a transom rebuld at the moment so it's looking like this summer may b a bust as far as getting the boat out on the lake. Any other suggestions on this problem would b helpful

Ayuh,.... Try like I explained in post 6, with some blockin', 'n see if the loose plate is still loose,.....

The outer hull is fairly thick glass,... I don't subscribe to the hammer test myself,...

If you can reach those loose bolts, Jam an icepick into the nearby wood, 'n see what ya find,....

For whatever reason it's loose, the motor's gotta come out to fix it, 'n the drive has gotta come off to pull the motor,...
