Hi guys!

I am a new boat owner as of this spring. 2005 Chaparral 204i with a Volvo Penta 5.7 Gi sterndrive motor.

I noticed that my bilge was turning on once or twice each outing depending on how long we would go out, and after further investigation I have found a small stream of water when I turn off the engine. This runs for about 10 mins after shut down. Doing research online, this could be normal??

I have circled the stream of water as it comes down. It is located at the very bottom of the engine right at the back.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal? And if not, what might be leaking?

Thanks!!

no its not normal.

that is the y-pipe in your picture

most likely the bellows are leaking.

pull the drive ASAP and service the bellows. you may have to replace the gimbal bearing and u-joints if the bellows has been damaged for more than a very very very short time

Thank you! I have booked in with a mechanic. Fingers crossed I got to it in time. It's only used in fresh water and the steering still feels smooth, but I won't know until mechanic checks it out!
