Hey Guys and Gals,
This is my first post. I've been really impressed with the helpfulness of this site.

I recently bought a used 1996 Evinrude 90hp VRO. I hung it on to find out there are 2 dead cyls. Found a rebuilt '93 power head and threw it on. Now I have a significant amount of water leaking out of the cowling. NOT coming from the new Base Gasket??
Questions.
1. Is it possble that it is the exhaust gasket/tube in the mid section?

2. I am told there is an aluminum plug in this midsection that may have been dislodged??

3. Compression is fine, but, is it possible there is a crack in the block??

4. What should the Base Gasket be torqued to??

I'm hoping to remove the Power Head again today to see what is happening.

Thanks!

Re: Water Leaking

Welcome!!!!

Take the cowling off, start it up and see if you can put an eyeball on the leak.

Re: Water Leaking

Well, I ended up pulling a lot more than that apart! Actually a neat experience. After a fair amount of dismantling I discovered the exhaust gasket is done. There appears to be a rubber "grommet" for the exhaust tube that also appears destroyed. I really should buy a manual to tell me exactly what I am looking at!
Thanks!
