I posted the other day about water/oil (milky) in my u-joint bellow. (I belive it was Don) Someone suggested that there could have been water in the lower unit and pushed out throught the front seal into the bellow.

After removing and inspecting the u-joint bellow, I think this may be what happened because I could not find any rips or tears in the bellow itself, plus the water/oil was very thin and milky much like water and gear oil, not water and bearing grease.

Any suggestions as to how to tackle this problem? I haave a Clymer manual, and it mentions that the impeller shaft would be damaged, because its "pressed in" (??)

Is changing the front seal something I should not be considering to do myself?? Any other suggestions or tips?

Thanks.

I see u have an omc. It could be just a bad seal on the shaft. I think it unlikely that the shaft is bent. I've changed them on my 3.0, not too difficult a job.

Re: Water/Oil in U-Joint Bellow

Sorry. Yes, it's an OMC Cobra (5.7) outdrive. I'm talking about the seal on the u-joint shaft that runs throught the carrier bearing. I thought I read in the clymer man. that the impeller shaft is pressed onto that somehow, and that to remove it would damage it and would need to be replaced. I'm not sure I understand that correctly.

I wondering whats involved in replacing the front seal on the u-joint shaft carrier bearing. It doesnt "look" like a whole lot to it.. but I've never done that before.

Thanks.
