Use some fresh fuel to eliminate that as the cause for the water. If you still have water, the exhaust cover is likely leaking. Post back results.

Don't worry about the backdrag carbs for now. Run the SOB and see if you have water on the spark plug electrodes. Alternatively, see if the spark plug gets steam cleaned, and looks brand new. Both are signs of water infiltration.

yes, if the coil arcs, it is likely time for a ne one. It is grounded well, right?

Yes cleaned all the connections also turns out it is cracked on that side where it was arcing im guessin that was the path of least resistance . Ok tell me bout my carbs ive got a slight chipping on my piston crown could be from the sh%t feul but im going to tapp the water jacket at the top to cool her down and prob set timing at 19. for max spark do I need it wot then line my marks upthen check with a t light ur a smart guy pour it to me wat do u think about it

Re: Water on my plug

Can anybody tell me about backdraft carbs and how to get the best results to give my engine sevral years of use and has anyone ever drilled snd tapped the water jacket for a new tale tale to prevent burning the #1 cylinder or over heating thanks for any help

Gee, you have a fine engine design, Why do you want to change it?

Back draft carbs pull carb venturi vacuum thru the carb bowls. When RPM is high enough, volume of air overcomes ability of backdraft jet to supply carb bowl with fresh air. Bowl then has slight vacuum, which leans fuel/air mixture to motor.

Ive read on here that because of todays feul its best to richin it up s bit .i know I ould ricgin the mixture screw and run 40-1 will that alone be enough to keep this tower goin for a while I do love this engine and dont want to toast this one no time soon ive also read on this site that being the tale tale hole is half way down the block it creates a air bubble up top and cause

It to overheat up top on my last 81 model 90 hrse the tale tale hole was at the top of the water jacket plate so the theory seemed to make sence

Re: Water on my plug

Running 40::1 will not do anything positive for the motor. Make sure the waterpump is serviced every few years and keep the carbs clean. That is the best you can do. Remember that model was one of the most successful in the history of outboards. No need to re-engineer it.
