Have you checked for wet foam? That may add some unwanted weight .
You could also try trim tabs . Is the motor trimmed all the way down when you take off ?

I had a 91 Cajun ProSport 150 (15') last year with a Yamaha 85hp. It was exactly the same. You can learn to slow down gradually so you don't get water over the back. I never experimented with adding weight to the front but I'm sure it would have helped. If your boat is like mine all the weight is in the back. If I had kept the boat I would have moved the trolling batteries to the front.

Backwash is common on bass boats. I fact almost all of them do it. Like Bondo stated slowing down slower will help minimalize it. Also trim down before you drop off plane. I would always wait till the wake was about to hit the motor and blip the throttle a little to outrun the wake.

Like others have said are you trimming all the way down when you go to get on plane? If you are what prop are you running? What's your RPMs on the hole shot?

I had an 18 foot bass boat 145 evenrude, bought used, had a whale tale mounted on the engine, the bow wanted to come up out of the water to high, purchased a pair of smart tabs easy to install wow what a difference it made. as for water coming over the transom i believe this is common on bass boats when you slow down to quick thats why they have that large drainage area in front of the motor

Check and see where the av plate sits in relation to the bottom of the boat......years ago I bought a used small bass boat, the av plate was several inches below the bottom of the boat, the dang thing took forever to plane..... installed a jackplate and set it where the top of the water intake was just below the bottom of boat......thing ran like a different boat!

And for the water over the boat...... do as Bondo said...
