Hi, Quick question, if I squeeze my water pipes (sounds rude I know) near the thermostat housing (obviously when cold) on my mercruiser 3.0L 135hp I hear a scrunching noise. Is this normal or does this mean that the internals of the pipes maybe breaking down. And should be changed. If they do need changing I assume there will be a minimum amount of water come out of them as there is no radiator and do they need purging once replaced or does the impellor do this when running.

Re: Water Pipes

The fat pipe that runs from the circulation pump to the thermostat housing is under vacuum and has a long coil of wire that keeps it from collapsing. Maybe thats what you're feeling? The other hoses should be soft but if you think you feel something, its easy enough to undo a hose so you can pull one end off for a quick inspection.

Re: Water Pipes

The boat is a 2004 Bayliner 175 Capri with a 3.0L Mercruiser engine with only about 100 or so hours on it. The pipes look in great condition and now you mention the wire that probably is the answer but yeah I think I will pull the pipe off and have a quick look as it is easy to do, I forget its not like a car where you have to drain all the water and top up with new antifreeze. I assume there will be no water or very little when I take the pipe off. I just didn?t want it to be cracking inside and crap floating around the engine. Thanks.
