I got a Faria gauge and teleflex Pitot hose. Not sure if I should plumb into tell tale or mount into block. Can anybody point me in the right direction in the install of chosen method. I saw the one Engine - Frequently asked question but not sure if it is the same since mine is V4.

thanks

A water pressure gauge is not typically hooked to the pitot, the speedometer is. The water pressure gauge is hooked up to the telltale hose barb on the back of the outer exhaust cover.

He might be just referring to the hose itself which is the same for a pitot type speedo and a water pressure gauge.

As for where to hook it up: OP.... aren't there instructions in with the WP gauge? If not, get them from the manufacturer. I've only hooked up teleflex WP gauges, but they came with instructions for various types of J/E engines. There are differences, depending on the engine type and size. I hooked up one as described above, but then on another, very similar engine (both V6's) I had to T it in a completely different place. But this was all clearly explained in the installation instructions.

Per BRP customer service/tech support and Fairwinds Marina, I am coming up with T'ing into telltale as prescribed method. I did mean the hose used for Pitot.
Thanks

Just in case you run into the same issue I had...

On the engine that I T's into the telltale, I was getting very weak WP reading at the gauge with a very strong stream from the telltale. The tube running from the T to the gauge was quite a bit smaller diameter than the telltale hose. I necked down the tell tale hose to the same diameter as the gauge hose and got an accurate reading. I don't know if this is a common issue, but the engine in question was an early 80s V6 crossflow.

In order to eliminate any variances in pressure readings from a "T" line, I plumbed my gauge direct to the engine hose barb and eliminated the telltale.

Not every engine has a barbed fitting for that use. Neither of mine does (did) and the instructions that came with the gauge had a section specific to various engines - maybe some of which have a barb that can be used (I don't remember because I only read the instructions for my engine). What engine do you have that has a barb that a WP gauge tube can fit on?

Re: Water pressure gauge install 1987 90HP. Where on motor side?

After 1977, most crossflow recreational engines came stock with a barbed elbow fitting for the overboard indicator and the fittings were 1/8 NPT nylon fitting part #321886. Those fittings are still being installed on other new engines.

The water pressure gauge line does not have water in it, just air, so the pressure does not have to be very high to register. The main thing that is needed if you tee into the tell-tale line is to use the correct tee so that it will maintain the pressure at that point in the line. The OMC/BRP kits always came with the correct parts and instructions.
